B20 Coalition: BDI Assumes Presidency

The leaders of the B20 Coalition met on 1 and 2 June in Paris. BDI took over the presidency from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

The B20 Coalition is an alliance of leading G20 business associations, together representing more than 6.8 million businesses. The goal of the B20 Coalition is to exert lasting influence on the G20 process and to promote exchange between the business sectors of the G20 members.

In Paris the leaders of the B20 Coalition agreed to make resource efficiency a new priority. The B20 Coalition is preparing joint positions on the issue, and calling for resource efficiency to be added to the G20 agenda. It will also organise workshops and seeking close cooperation with the G7 Alliance for Resource Efficiency.

The member organisations also conducted intense discussions on political and economic developments in the individual G20 countries and on global issues such as the refugee crisis and world trade. BDI President Ulrich Grillo, who chaired the meeting, gave an overview of the most important processes in Germany and presented the German Industrie 4.0 concept. The B20 Coalition also held political discussions with French Economics Minister Emmanuel Macron and Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek.
