BDI welcomes the end of the Iran sanctions

Doubling German exports over the next five years is a possibility. In particular, the modernisation of Iran’s industrial infrastructure offers good opportunities for German industry.

With the lifting of sanctions imposed because of the nuclear issue, German industry is expecting a huge growth surge in business with Iran. “We consider a doubling of exports of currently running at around 2.4 billion euros over the next five years for realistic”, said BDI President Ulrich Grillo in Berlin on Monday.

“I appeal to the German government and to the governments of the countries of the Gulf region to create the conditions for a lasting peace”, emphasised Grillo. “In Iran there is exceptionally large pent-up demand for modernising industrial infrastructure.”

Grillo added that particularly the modernisation of the oil industry opens up great market opportunities for German mechanical and plant engineering firms. The BDI also sees further opportunities for industry in areas such as the automotive and chemical industries, the health care sector, the expansion of renewable energies, waste management or the construction materials industry.
