Pillar of Global Governance: BDA, BDI, and DIHK Assume German B20 Presidency

The German government has asked the leading German business organisations to conduct the official G20 business dialogue for the German G20 presidency in 2017. Dr. Jürgen Heraeus will chair the B20 under the German presidency.

Jürgen Heraeus is chair of the supervisory board of Heraeus Holding GmbH and chair of UNICEF Germany. During the year-long B20 presidency he will be supported by Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner as Sherpa. She is Head of the Department of External Economic Policy at BDI. The German B20 presidency begins with China’s handover of the B20 presidency in September 2016.

The B20 is an integral part of the G20 process, in which it represents the entire G20 business community. The task of the B20 is to support the G20 with concrete recommendations, consolidated representation, and expertise. The B20 also promotes dialogue between politics, business, and civil society at the international level. In the B20, the business representatives from all G20 members prepare joint recommendations and specific policy proposals, covering the entire spectrum of the G20 agenda. The B20 also holds meetings and an exchange with governments and other stakeholders in the G20 process. Like the G20 presidency, the B20 presidency is also a year-long project.
