Sub-Saharan Africa Initiative of German Business (SAFRI)

The Sub-Saharan Africa Initiative of German Business (SAFRI) is the regional initiative of German business. SAFRI is jointly supported by the following business associations: Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Deutscher Industrie- und Handelskammertag – DIHK), Federation of German Industries (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie – BDI), Federation of German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services (Bundesverband Großhandel, Außenhandel, Dienstleistungen – BGA), and German African Business Association (Afrika-Verein der Deutschen Wirtschaft). DIHK and BDI are responsible for coordinating SAFRI activities.

SAFRI‘s aim is to improve the perception of Africa as a continent of opportunities among German businesses and to highlight their responsibility within this framework. SAFRI offers a platform for a united approach with the African partners focussed on building and intensifying economic cooperation as well as promoting investment and trade.

Through combining their activities, SAFRI members add weight to the interest of the German industry in Sub-Saharan Africa as well as the economic and economic-political exchange between Germany and Africa.

Professor Heinz-Walter Große, chief executive officer of B. Braun Melsungen AG, is the chairs of SAFRI. He holds this position since January 2015.
