The German government must show stronger commitment to TTIP

BDI President Ulrich Grillo responds to the recent statements from Germany’s Economics Minister on the progress of TTIP negotiations.

“I find it astonishing that Germany’s Economics Minister is saying TTIP negotiations have effectively failed. Such a claim is politically dubious, as it is depriving our businesses and our citizens of the great advantages that such an agreement would provide. I think it is only natural that many questions still remain open in the TTIP discussions. In complex negotiations, the most important points are usually only addressed in the final stages. What is required now is political leadership to resolve these questions. We Europeans stand to benefit greatly from an agreement with the US that sensibly develops the regulations governing world trade. The BDI is calling for a significantly stronger commitment to the free trade agreement, both publically and politically, from the German government.”
