The opportunities of deep-sea mining for Germany’s raw material strategy

This paper delineates the BDI's position on the opportunities of deep-sea mining for Germany, but also on its challenges.

Exploiting new sources of raw materials is gaining importance for securing the longterm supply of natural resources. This is the result of the rising global need for raw materials and the declining quality of the known deposits. In this context, the potential of marine mineral resources on the seafloor is particularly interesting.
