A strong and capable EU is good for the US

On the occasion of the first meeting of US President Donald Trump with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and European Council President Donald Tusk in Brussels, BDI President Dieter Kempf calls for the EU and the US to close ranks.

“The US benefits both politically and economically from a strong and capable European Union. Many global challenges can be tackled much more effectively if the EU and the US stand shoulder to shoulder. Transatlantic trade and investment is good for both sides. The EU and the US are each other’s most important export market and trading partner. EU companies employ more than 3.6 million people in the US, and US companies employ more than four million people in the EU.

It would therefore be wise to deepen these transatlantic relations with a free trade agreement based on clear rules and high standards. The EU and the US need to maintain reliable relations based on openness and rules. Isolationism and unilateralism are a dead-end solution.”
