Collapse of Jamaica coalition talks utterly unsatisfactory

BDI President Dieter Kempf criticises the collapse of exploratory talks. In view of the global crisis and the need for reform in Europe, Germany must have an effective government in place fast. Kempf calls on the parties to live up to their responsibility.

“Economic stability requires political stability. The collapse of the Jamaica negotiations after weeks of talks is utterly unsatisfactory. Despite the good shape of the economy at present, industry is facing enormous challenges. In view of the global crises, the need for reform in Europe and pressing decisions for investments in Germany as an industrial location, Germany must steel itself for the future now. And we need more than a caretaker government in order to do this.

We call on the CDU, the SPD, the FDP and the Greens to live up to their political responsibility. All parties must be prepared to make compromises in order to secure growth, prosperity and employment.”
