RDE creates planning security for European industry

Dieter Schweer, a member of the Executive Board of the BDI, welcomes the rapid introduction of Real Driving Emissions following a vote of the European Parliament.

“It is good news that the members of the European Parliament have today voted in favour of the introduction of Real Driving Emissions (RDE). This creates both legal and planning security for European industry. RDE is a new additional procedure for testing the exhaust emissions of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in real driving conditions. The EU will now be able, as planned, to introduce this testing method for all new models as soon as 2017 and thereby substantially improve air quality. More stringent conformity factors, such as had been recommended by a resolution of the environment committee of the European Parliament, would have meant a major setback for the legislative procedure.”
