Retreat into nationalism is not an option for our country

“I urge the future coalition parties to rapidly sound out the options and take up focused negotiations on forming a viable federal government. Our businesses need clear signals now. It is a matter of averting damage to Germany’s business environment.

In view of the significant global risks, Germany as an export nation has to make itself fit for the future as quickly as possible. The upcoming coalition cannot simply rest on the laurels of the good current economic situation. The new federal government must formulate ideas to further develop our social market economy within a strong EU.

During the election campaign, there was far too much talk about yesterday and not enough about tomorrow. A retreat into nationalism is not an option for our country. Given the poor condition of our roads, our inadequate digital infrastructure and many shortcomings in the education system we need to see massive investments in Germany.

The key message of the AfD is xenophobia. At its core, this party is against the very policies that made Germany strong and will make it stronger still. The election results are a clear message to everyone with any sense of political responsibility that now, more than ever, is the time for constructive action. The outcome of the election shows that an important task of the future government is to regain the confidence of voters.”
