Brexit: UK government needs to reach agreement before an agreement with Brussels is possible

BDI Director General Joachim Lang laments the lack of a breakthrough after the latest meeting between UK Prime Minister Theresa May and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. Lang calls on the British government to reach agreement internally.

"We are sorry to see that no breakthrough was achieved at yesterday's meeting. At least the negotiators have shown that progress is possible, but talks will need to pick up pace in the next days in Brussels and London in order to achieve a breakthrough. The time window negotiators have to reach agreement is extremely narrow. We urge the British government to seize the chance to strike a deal now and pave the way for further talks. Downing Street now needs to get support from its coalition. Only once agreement has been reached at home can the UK reach agreement with Brussels."
