Export Controls: Balancing Economic Policy and Security Concerns

Few countries are as integrated into the global economy as Germany. The Federal Government and the German economy thus have a special responsibility, not only to maintain rules-based and open trade but also to secure peace and stability. An important instrument to do so are the export controls regimes of the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany. However, to achieve their objectives, controls must be balanced, feasible, and carried out in conjunction with the international community.
