The EU has plans for an anti-coercion-instrument (ACI) and BDI welcomes the timely effort. ACI should be a deterrent in the service of rules-based trade. It should be reactive, proportional, evidence-based and integrated into a larger strategy that also strengthens Europe’s strategic interdependence. The Transatlantic Partnership is an integral aspect in this effort. As a political tool, decisions to deploy ACI should be made by the Council.
