EU environmental legislation is currently too complex and bureaucratic, which places a heavy burden on companies and hinders innovation. Trust-based regulation should enable companies to take more responsibility and at the same time promote growth and competitiveness. There is an urgent need for reform, particularly in the areas of chemicals regulation (REACH), water management, producer responsibility and nature conservation legislation, in order to simplify procedures and create planning certainty. The proposed “EU Environment Omnibus” package aims to streamline environmental regulations, reduce reporting and documentation requirements and thus improve implementation and reduce the burden on companies.
