Requirements of a Bilateral Investment Treaty Between the EU and China
In 2014 the European Commission began negotiating a bilateral investment treaty with China. If completed it would be the first stand-alone investment agreement that the EU has negotiated. From BDI’s perspective the agreement should not only guarantee investment protection but also contain comprehensive provisions to improve market access conditions in China. European subsidiaries in China should command the same entrepreneurial freedom of action in China as enjoyed by domestic companies in China.
