With the deadline for a possible extension of the transitional period having expired, the negotiations on future EU-UK relations have taken on increased urgency. A deep and comprehensive free trade agreement – with simple and harmonised rules of origin – and the simplification of customs procedures between the EU and the UK to the greatest extent possible are important to mitigate the economic costs of Brexit.
