Dominik Mutter

Prior to assuming his current position in March 2022, Dominik Mutter served as Security Policy Director at Federal Ministry of Defense, Berlin.

Mr. Mutter served in Lima, Peru (2001); at the European Affairs Directorate (2001-04); in Cairo, Egypt (2005-07); at the Federal Chancellery’s Foreign Policy Directorate (2007-09); at the Division for Parliamentary and Cabinet Affairs (2009-13); in Washington, DC (2013-17); as Head of Division (North America) in the Foreign Office (2017-18); and as Head of Division (Security Policy and bilateral relations) at the Federal Chancellery’s Foreign Policy Directorate (2018-21).

Dominik Mutter holds a Master’s Degree in Modern History, American Studies and Political Science from Freiburg University, Germany. As a much younger man, he spent a year as an exchange student at a high school in the western part of New York State (1988/89), and later a year at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (1996/97).

    The Geopolitical State of Affairs – What role can value-based partnerships play?

    As the world already combats the effects on the covid-19 pandemic on myriad policy areas, the war in Ukraine poses challenges both in the humanitarian realm and across the policy sphere. This crisis in particular highlights geopolitical questions regarding value-based alliances and dealing with autocratic systems. The panel on the geopolitical state of affairs aims to deal with these greater structural questions about these and other difficulties and to explore how G7 cooperation can go beyond the traditional policy areas and strive towards deeper unity when global challenges ramp up.
