  • Panel Discussion Geopolitical State of Affairs

As the world already combats the effects on the covid-19 pandemic on myriad policy areas, the war in Ukraine poses challenges both in the humanitarian realm and across the policy sphere. This crisis in particular highlights geopolitical questions regarding value-based alliances and dealing with autocratic systems. The panel on the geopolitical state of affairs aims to deal with these greater structural questions about these and other difficulties and to explore how G7 cooperation can go beyond the traditional policy areas and strive towards deeper unity when global challenges ramp up.

  • Panel Discussion Climate Policy

Despite the rise of global emissions over the past decade according to the latest IPCC report, many countries have set ambitious goals in the fight against global warming. International efforts are needed for climate protection. The G7 countries and their industries must lead the way and, together with emerging and developing countries, phase out the use of fossil fuels as quickly as possible. This development has become even more acute since the start of the war in Ukraine. With this in mind, the panel on climate policy will discuss the strategy of the G7 in times of geopolitical crises, the role of a climate club for international climate protection and ways to decarbonize industry.

  • Panel Discussion Health

The state of health infrastructure in one country can profoundly affect health security worldwide as we have unfortunately learned through the current COVID 19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic is a global challenge. No single government or institution can tackle the threat of future pandemics alone. It requires sustained political leadership, political will, global coordination, regulatory alignment, solidarity and continued financing. Prevention will be key to enable our healthcare systems to face long-term challenges – epidemic risks, ageing population, chronic diseases, antibiotic resistance – that threaten the sustainability of our healthcare systems.

The panel on health policy will grapple with questions of effective pandemic and crisis prevention, preparedness and response and the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach MdB (Member of the German Bundestag), Federal Minister of Health (participaion tbc)
